Angelina Jolie gave a prize to Mariane Pearl, the widow of Daniel Pearl who was killed by radical Islamists in Pakistan. You might say that it should be the other way around. I mean Jolie played her ‘reel’ role in the film ‘A Mighty Heart’ based on the true story and gave widespread awareness to the brutal beheading of Daniel and also portrayed Mariane’s agony onscreen. But it was Angelina Jolie who looked radiant as she gave Mariane Pearl the Fern Holland Award Monday night at the Vital Voices Global Leadership Awards gala in Washington, D.C.
Both ladies were effusive in their praises for each other. Jolie described Mariane as a woman who personified courage, hope and tolerance. Mariane simply called Angelina ’sister’, a term which describes the deep bond between them. After all Jolie, being the consummate actress that she is, must have gone through the same agonies that Mariane must have suffered when her husband was brutally killed. The fact that after the ceremony, the two spent the day together with their kids, shows how matey they are to each other. This happens when ‘real’ life and ‘reel’ life come close.

Jolie never fails to win hearts! A person with true compassion can do all the things she does and no wonder, it makes her quite the apple of every viewer’s eye not mention the fantasy of every man... now that’s drifting from the topic.....
Angelina Jolie is very different from other beautiful women in Hollywood. She not only has the oomph, which has made her a superstar, but brains with a heart.
I think her compassion and championing of various causes in Darfur, Iraq etc. is not a put-on. She really means it.
The compassion ,perhaps, comes from her difficult childhood. Jon Voight is hardly an ideal father. She must have struggled and suffered to grow out from his influence.
