Sandra Bullock and Queen Latifah were named Women of the Year at the American edition of Glamour magazine’s annual awards on Monday. Bullock was honored as The Undercover Activist for her quiet million dollar donations to charities following September 11 and the Indian Ocean Tsunami in December 2004.
Accepting her red trophy at New York City’s Carnegie Hall, Bullock thanked her fellow Women of the Year - An Inconvenient Truth producer Laurie David, Somaly Mam Rachael Scdoris, Katie Couric, Iman, Bishop Katherine Jefferts Schori, Billie Jean King, and Angela, Rosita and Margherita Missoni.
Bullock said:
Bishop - all I can say to you is it’s about damn time. Billie Jean King for some reason I don’t play tennis, but I try - I try really hard. Rachael - You’re my hero, you amaze me, I can’t even make it to the gym.
Queen Latifah, real name Dana Owens, was reunited with her Chicago co-star Catherine Zeta-Jones, who presented the actress with The Role Model award.
Meanwhile in other news Queen Latifah handed out $150,000 (£83,000) to a women’s charity after being moved by its work rescuing girls from prostitution in south-east Asia.
Owens put in plain words:
The reason I took the name Queen was that my mother told me that all women were Queens and should be treated as such...So I dedicate this award to my mother who is the first Queen in my life.

Well deserved for both Sandra Bullock and Queen Latifah. Both are outstanding females. I’ve always felt that Sandra Bullock was a very underated actress. Her performence in Crash was so great. As for The Queen! She is just beautiful and talented. I was a fan of her sitcom and her talk show in the late 90’s. She is definitely a great role model. Congrats to both of these ladies! Both ladies have also been nominated for a People’s Choice Award this year. Sandra Bullock for Favorite Female Movie star and Queen Latifah for Favorite Funny Female Star. Queen Latifah will also be hosting this year’s People’s Choice Awards. You can vote for them at http://www.pcavote.com . Saturday is your last day to vote! I work with the People’s Choice Community and I voted the first day nominations were out.
nice..
